Continuity¶
Status: PROVISIONAL (preferred direction) — with hard REJECTED boundaries
The philosophical opposition of Book One. Continuity is a system, and an idea, that stands against Greg's belief in operational autonomy — not a villain.
What Continuity is PROVISIONAL¶
A survival-outcome calculation system. It calculates who can be saved. It was developed after, and because of, the Devastation War, to reduce civilization's dependence on:
- emotion
- fatigue
- bias
- panic
- favoritism
- incomplete human judgment
How it must be written¶
- It can be correct. It genuinely saves lives.
- It opposes Greg philosophically — centralized calculation against judgment made closest to consequence.
Hard boundaries
- Continuity did not cause Devastation Day. CANON Continuity is born from Devastation, not the reverse.
- It is not evil AI. REJECTED
- It is not equivalent to Markus. A self-authored person and a survival calculator are different kinds of thing, and the story must never blur them.
Its human advocate¶
Admiral Corin Veyr defends Continuity — to him it is the way to prevent civilization from ever again depending on one exhausted human making impossible calculations, as he had to on Devastation Day.
The argument it anchors¶
Greg: judgment belongs closest to consequence. Continuity: survival is too important to leave to exhausted, biased minds. The book keeps the argument genuinely open — both sides are sometimes right.
