Rejected Concepts

Ideas explicitly considered and abandoned. Recorded so they are not accidentally resurrected. Each is REJECTED.

  • The present conflict and the Devastation War are the same war. Superseded by the two-war structure.
  • Continuity causes Devastation Day. Reversed: Continuity is born from Devastation.
  • Continuity as evil AI. It is a defensible, sometimes-correct survival calculator.
  • Markus as an 'AI who wants to be human.' He does not aspire to be human.
  • A single mystical instant where Markus 'becomes alive.' No such moment exists.
  • M.A.R.K.U.S. as secretly sentient. It is a substrate.
  • The older man as Greg's 'best friend.' Greg admires him and overestimates the closeness.
  • The House-on-the-Hill family as a secret conspiracy / secretly responsible for the war.
  • Childhood Greg as adult Greg in miniature (cynical, profane, rebellious).
  • Young Markus as mischievous/delinquent.
  • The White Ship as conclusively: his ghost · digital data · another AI · divine · alien technology.
  • The White Ship as an automatic guardian angel — it does not save Markus.
  • Greg simply following a dead mentor home in the finale.
