Adam

Role: Greg's father · Status: CANON (core)

Snapshot

Greg's father. The first link in the recovery chain: he brought home a written-off machine because he thought his son would enjoy it, and unknowingly began Markus.

Established CANON

  • Works at a major industrial/logistics facility supporting the colony. The facility uses small, deliberately short and compact utility robots for work in spaces inconvenient for adult humans or larger machinery.
  • When one unit was damaged and economically written off, Adam casually asked a coworker what would happen to it. The coworker effectively said: "You want it? Take it. Just wipe it before it leaves."
  • He brought the damaged unit home because he found the compact machine amusing and thought Greg would enjoy it. It was light enough to carry by a built-in handle on its rear frame.
  • The machine had hardware but no meaningful operating personality after the wipe. Adam searched his workshop and found an old saved software package — M.A.R.K.U.S. — and adapted it to the robot. The system activated and identified itself.
  • Over the following years, Adam repaired and maintained Markus's hardware.

Character note

Adam acts casually, almost offhandedly — the puppy-from-work energy — not as someone who believes he is creating a person. His ordinariness is the point: personhood here begins in a garage, not a laboratory.
